Tear The World Down Today With We Are The Fallen!

May 11th, 2010

‘Tear the World Down’, the eagerly awaited debut album from We Are The Fallen has been released today on iTunes and all major record stores.

Quite frankly this entire album rocks. From the driving anthem that is ‘Bury Me Alive’ to subtler but equally beautiful songs such as ‘Without You’ the whole thing burns with unleashed talent. Comparisons with Evanescence are obvious but it is quite clear that this is a very different band and in many ways a stronger band. The best way to describe their work is to say it is five very talented people working together, having fun and building on their previous works.

Each of the band members brings something – from the drums (I’m a secret Rocky Gray fan ever since I first heard the song, Tourniquet) - through Marty O’Brien’s sophisticated rock bass to Ben Moody and John LeCompt’s spectacular guitar riffs. Carly Smithson deserves credit for deep vocals and sophisticated lyrical complexity.

Buy it. Buy it now! Make your friends buy it! Make your family buy it! Tear the World Down!

Review of the Debut Gig 23rd March 2010

March 24th, 2010

So I went to the debut gig of ‘We Are The Fallen’ today, March 23rd in London. It rocked! Truly, WATF are an awesome epic rock band both musically and in their gracious attitude to their fans.

It has taken me time to come to this conclusion. Frankly, when ‘We Are The Fallen’ came out I was negative and sceptical of them. Far from being a starry-eyed fanboi I was in fact pretty horrible to them and defensive of Evanescence. However, hard though it is for me to admit they have won me over.

Simply put the sound was fresh and energetic and yet at the same time almost like listening to Fallen again. The band mix solid rock guitar and bass with strings and piano with an orchestral sound that perfectly supports and counterpoints Carly Smithson’s velvet vocals.

The band all bring their best from their previous projects. Listening to the music you can * feel * the talent that produced ‘Tourniquet’, ‘All That I Am Living For’ and ‘All For This’.

The songs we have already heard, ‘Bury Me Alive’ and ‘Without You’ were in the mix and ‘Bury Me Alive’ performed live was just as good as on the download – this is no studio band but a full blooded rock legend in the making. Likewise ‘Without You’ was music in widescreen. The band also performed a variety of new songs. Standing out were “I am Only One” and “Tear the World Down”. Strong tracks and strong vocals made the whole thing into a full-on experience.

At the same time the band showed their versatility by covering ‘Like a Prayer’ by Madonna and ‘Flight of Icarus’ by Iron Maiden. The whole team shifted with practised smoothness between a driving rendition of a pop classic to full on metal. Carly Smithson’s vocals stayed ahead of the game whether she was filling the material girl’s shoes or Bruce Dickinson’s.

Basically if someone had told me it was the original Evanescence’s second album I would have believed them.

Leaving aside the music and turning to the overall experience what was clear from the concert was the energy and rapport the band have with each other as well as with the fans. On stage there was a clear positive vibe of a team working together with no individual dominating.

After the show the band were very gracious to the fans, patiently chatting to everyone who wanted to and signing all their stuff including in my case a poster for my friend Carmen.

I would recommend WATF to all Evanescence fans. Like you guys I love Amy and will be keen to hear the new electro-themed music. However for all of us rock fans looking for another fix ‘We Are The Fallen’ have what it takes.

WITHOUT YOU

Do you see me , I stand before your eyes
here in pieces, let me in your mind
when did love fade, why are we at war,
where did we fall, where did we go wrong,
have we lost it all?

Oh I let you go to feel the light outside
Oh I without you I just feel
I just feel so alive

I can define where the well ran dry
I remember every tear I cried
memories of lies, wasted all this time
now we’ve lost it all

Oh I let you go to feel the light outside
Oh I without you I just feel so alive
There must be more to life
Than I just left behind
Oh I without you I just feel
I just feel so alive

I step into sunlight
fueled by rage and delight
There’s no place for weakness
I’ll forget your sweet kiss

Oh I let you go to feel the light outside
Oh I without you I just feel so alive
There must be more to life
Than I just left behind
Oh I without you I just feel
I just feel so alive
